When it comes to data protection and ransomware recovery, there’s a new sheriff in town. Veeam Software has officially relocated its corporate headquarters to the Seattle area, leaving its former digs in Ohio.
The market leader in its respective fields (measured by market share), the company employs more than 5,000 workers globally. It chose Washington because of its close proximity to major cloud providers Amazon and Microsoft, and its deep pool of technical talent.
It’s a long way from Switzerland, where the company began. Four years ago, it was snapped up by a private equity firm—a deal that valued the company at $5 billion—and the die was cast to shift its course to the Puget Sound region once former Microsoft executive Anand Eswaran came aboard as CEO.
“The plan was always to shift the center of gravity here,” Eswaran said in an interview with Geekwire. “At the end of the day, when you look at talent, when you look at core tech skills, when you look at the innovation landscape, our most significant partners are based here, as well — it just made sense.”
Veeam also has a five-year partnership with Microsoft to develop AI solutions jointly using Veeam’s products and Microsoft Copilot.
So far, the company has 50 employees in Washington. However, with a full floor and plenty of room to at Carillon Point to expand, that number is bound to increase quickly. Data theft, ransomware demands and cyber threats are increasing exponentially and demand for the company’s products will be strong for years, if not decades, to come.
