Mmm, the smell of fresh bread. Just like mom used to make. The operative words here are “mom” and “used to.”
A Washington company has unveiled a new breadmaking robot that can crank out 10 loaves of fresh bread an hour. No human required.
Debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show, Jan. 7, BreadBot is a robotic baker that can mix, proof and bake loaves automatically. The made in Washington robot is the brainchild of the Wilkinson Baking Company in Walla Walla, Washington, Breadbot is intended for use in grocery stores, cranking out a steady stream of piping hot bread that customers can take with them. The machine even has a self-cleaning feature.
Once a human loads in the bread mix in the morning (yes, they still need a human to do that), Breadbot is off and running, providing a perfect loaf of fresh bread every time. The robotic baker is set to make its retail debut in Spring of this year, say the makers. The machine was the brainchild of a Boeing engineer who worked on it for years. When he passed away, Wilkinson Baking Company continued to perfect the process. The robot is built in Walla Walla.
